Much has been said about PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), a malign affliction that makes life in the everyday world a fraught proposition for those enduring the condition. But something seldom discussed is the reverse side of that unfortunate coin. We don't even have an acronym for it, although that's a matter easily remedied. We could call this unchained malady PHD (Post-Holiday Discombobulation) or WNTRWAS (Who Needs The Real World Anyway Syndrome) or, perhaps best of all, Mad Wow! Disease. Any of those titles would capture the essence of the ailment, namely that getting back to normal and coming to grips with the dreary travails of LITAL (Life In The Aghast Lane) is a hard thing, especially for a proud former member of No 17 Squadron ATC (Air Training Corps) who's just spent a neck-craning weekend watching magnificent men (and women) hurtling through the mild blue yonder in their flying machines at the awesome Omaka Airshow in Blenheim.
