Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Super Puzzle Fighter II Coming ...

Releasing an updated but not ruined version of a classic game is tough, sand I'm excited to see what Capcom has planned for its upcoming Xbox Live and Playstation Network releases of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. HD means 1080p as well as updated artwork and graphics. UDON comics, the gifted folks behind the Street Fighter comic series, are handling all the updated art, and it looks like the games are in good hands. But almost every change is optional, so feel free to run the original graphics or the original version of Puzzle Fighter II.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix includes all 17 of the original SSFII Turbo characters, and will include single-player as well as local or online one-on-one action. In addition, it'll feature in-game voice chat, matchmaking "flexibility through multiple options," and worldwide leaderboards.

Seattle, Wash. - April 20, 2007 - The 2007 Online Game Development Conference (OGDC) completes its speaker roster with the addition of Erik Bethke, CEO of GoPets, Ltd., as a keynote speaker on Friday, May 11th. Mr. Bethke has garnered great respect on both sides of the Pacific Ocean for his ability to anticipate trends in the industry, adapt to them and excel in positioning gaming products successfully.

Erik Bethke has been developing games for over 12 years. During this time, he has worked up the ranks from a junior engineering position to the CEO of Taldren, Inc. in California. He is the founder of GoPets and is currently living in Seoul.

For five years at Taldren, he was responsible for overall corporate operations, leading design and business development. Projects managed at Taldren include the Starfleet Command real-time tactical starship simulator.

I was wrong about MySpace

In the beginning I started out so innocently. I just wanted to write a piece on MySpace steeped in personal experience. So I signed up, decorated my page and 32 friends later here I am, dependent and begging for more.

Before MySpace was introduced into my daily Internet routine, I checked my e-mail, read a few online comics and music reviews then called it a day. Now, I walk past the computers in the Union and I'm overcome with the urge to check and see if anyone left a comment on my page. Sometimes I have the strength to make it home, other times I'm logged in and commenting before I realize there is a computer in the room.

At this point I'll have to admit-I'm a hypocrite. In an earlier piece ("What the hell does 'poke' mean, anyway?" April 19, 2006), I blasted MySpace and Facebook for being nothing more than arenas for superficial friends and people who had forgotten what "outside" was all about.

Alternative reality game takes on the end of oil

In a matter of days, gas prices will skyrocket, a dwindling food supply will rot, and the oil crisis literally will stop Americans in their tracks.

How can you and your loved ones survive a crippling breakdown?

Log in to "World Without Oil," a free alternate reality game that taps our collective ingenuity to stop a plausible crisis before it happens -- or at least prepare a post-Katrina nation to deal better with a disaster.

Sprung from the imagination of San Jose gamemaker Ken Eklund, the 30-day Internet game begins April 30 at www.worldwithoutoil.org.

"Oil's" creators herald the venture as a first -- an alternate reality game that wrestles with a significant social problem. Another topical game, the obesity-themed "Fatworld," is in production.

"This is the alternate reality game that will change reality," Eklund said.

MSN on Xbox 360

Members of the 6 million-strong Xbox LIVE community currently send more than 2 million text and voice messages a day and can now use Windows Live Messenger to text chat with up to six people on their contact list at one time, while playing games, listening to music or watching movies. Text chat adds to the variety of options friends and families already have to communicate with on Xbox LIVE, including voice and video chat. Current relationships on Windows Live Messenger and Xbox LIVE will be unified on Xbox 360 and users will see at a glance if their existing friends on Windows Live Messenger have gamertags, instantly expanding the breadth of connected experiences they can share online. Beyond Windows Live Messenger, the Spring Update for Xbox 360 includes hundreds of new features and enhancements.
