Major UK Child Porn Investigation Flawed
Oxygen99 writes "The Guardian (UK) is carrying a story on Operation Ore, a major police investigation aimed at catching online pedophiles. This has resulted in several high-profile arrests, such as those of Pete Townshend and Robert Del Naja (both falsely accused), while attracting significant press attention. Yet, the reality of the investigation is one of stolen credit cards, wrongful accusations, and ignorance leading to a significant number of the 7,292 people on the list being wrongfully accused of a very emotionally charged crime. There have been 39 suicides and a number of other people on the list will probably never be investigated. It seems to me this case highlights flaws inherent in the way law enforcement agencies handle evidence that only a small minority of front-line officers fully understand." .
Charity video game event at Marist today
Marist College's James J. McCann Recreation Center, normally the home of the Red Foxes' athletic teams, has been transformed into a gaming heaven. Today at 1 p.m., Marist will host the fourth-annual "Gaming for Hope," a 12-hour long event with video game tournaments, recreational gaming, computer gaming and chess. "Everything's on schedule, we're all set to go," said Sean O'Connor, the president of the Marist Computer Society and a senior at the school. "We have it broken up into different sections. There's a big square in the middle for console games. We have a few tables out for tabletop games; the chessclub will be there for part of the night. We have two rows of tables ready for networking, people can bring in their PCs." The event is absolutely free of charge to attend, no matter how long you stay.
Diner Dash
Diner Dash is a casual gaming classic, available to try for free and costing a whopping $20 for the full version. This May, Eidos is bringing the game to PSP and DS for $10 more. You play as Flo, an executive driven to madness by the stresses of her job. Fleeing corporate America, she starts a restaurant. As Flo, you'll run the front end of a variety of restaurants, trying to make sure that you get customers in and out as happily as possible while dealing with a cute but pointless plot. I got some hands-on time with the PSP and DS versions at Eidos, and although I'm concerned about the prices, I'm looking forward to a chance to help Flo out on the go. Both versions capture the sharp cartoon style of Diner Dash. Charming is the best word for the look of the restaurants and clientele.
