Pistons taking care of business in Game 1

Jameer Nelsons wish is six minutes away from being granted. He wanted the Pistons; hes about to find out what Goin To Work is all about.

Were going to forego the local broadcast on FSN and watch in HD on ESPN. What? Fox Sports does Tigers games in HD. Why is it so tough to put the Pistons on it as well? Besides, we still get a local announcer in Ann Arbors Mike Tirico win/win.

Chris Webber pregame: I try not to think about what the ring means to me, because I would get emotional.

When I used to cut out Larry Birds picture and (Michael) Jordans picture and put them on my wall, it was to become an NBA player (dream) one; the second dream is to win an NBA championship.

"You dont say, I want to go to the NBA and get this check. Your whole dream as a kid is playing the in the backyard saying Im Magic (Johnson) three, two, one; I hit the winning shot.

CDC Games Adds Three New Games to Its Portfolio

CDC Games has signed definitive agreements to license three new online games for exclusive distribution in China in the second half of 2007. These new titles add to the growing portfolio of games already scheduled for 2007 that includes The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar, a subscription-based game, and Stone Age 2 and Special Forces, both free-to-play, pay-for-merchandise" games.

CDC Games will license ChaosGem, a "free-to-play, pay-for-merchandise" and full 3D Side Scroller game with elements of RPG, from Uniana. The game features two modes: Story Mode for character and skill development, and Player-Versus-Player mode for competing against other players and teams. The game is currently in Open Beta Test in Korea and received the Best Online Game of the Month award co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Korea Electronic Times and The Games magazine in January 2007.

Yahoo Takes on Google in the Analytics Game

As Google moves ahead with its acquisition of online advertising powerhouse DoubleClick, Yahoo continues to wage its own battle with Google on several fronts, including in the field of Web analytics. While Google takes a give 'em all they could want and more approach, Yahoo aims to give Web marketers a more focused set of stats and graphs -- hopefully, just what they need. .

ADHD Power Hour: RIP Kurt Vonnegut

15. Now that the Duke kids are innocent, Jackie Robinson has been honored, and Don Imus fired, can we go back to pretending race doesn't matter in American sports?

14. The Evil Empire is crumbling.

13. Manny is still being Manny, except now he's Manny Alexander. (Hitting .194 with no power.)

12. Through five percent of the season, Alex Rodriguez is the front-runner for the AL MVP and Felix Hernandez has passed Johan Santana as favorite for the AL Cy Young.

(Don't tell me early stats don't mean anything. No matter how early in a developing situation, initial results are always the prelude to the rest of the story. If you look hard enough, you can gain meaningful knowledge about the future to come. Early stats certainly aren't the whole story, but they are definitely the first paragraphs, going on the first chapter.)

Charity video game event at Marist today

Marist College's James J. McCann Recreation Center, normally the home of the Red Foxes' athletic teams, has been transformed into a gaming heaven.

Today at 1 p.m., Marist will host the fourth-annual "Gaming for Hope," a 12-hour long event with video game tournaments, recreational gaming, computer gaming and chess.

"Everything's on schedule, we're all set to go," said Sean O'Connor, the president of the Marist Computer Society and a senior at the school. "We have it broken up into different sections. There's a big square in the middle for console games. We have a few tables out for tabletop games; the chessclub will be there for part of the night. We have two rows of tables ready for networking, people can bring in their PCs."

The event is absolutely free of charge to attend, no matter how long you stay.

What if Magic had just shot average at line?

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- The Magic had the game in their hands. Too bad they were holding it 15 feet from the basket with nobody guarding them.

That meant they were at the free-throw line, which meant only one thing Saturday night. They had as much chance of making it as Alec Baldwin does of being named father of the year.

"I think if we'd have made our free throws, we would have been right in the game," Dwight Howard said.

He should know. In his first playoff game, Howard almost had the rarest of triple doubles: 13 points, 19 rebounds and eight missed free throws. Two more, and they would have sent the game ball to the Hall of Fame.

If you went strictly by the math, the Magic actually would have won the game if they had made their free throws.

Fantasy Source Expert Frank Neville

Have you ever picked up an old season preview magazine, looked at the predictions and wondered how the experts keep their jobs year to year? Like all those "Indians will win the '06 World Series" and "Clint Barmes will hit like Jeter" predictions? Remember those? And where are those experts in October to explain what happened?

Well, you won't find that type of responsibility-ducking in this column. Scouting reports can have financial consequences in pro baseball, and we'll take that same approach here. So let's re-examine a few of our slow-starting hotshot prospects and try to predict how they'll react to their rough starts.

DEER IN THE HEADLIGHTS

Alex Gordon, 3B, Royals. The "can't-miss kid" is hitting .111 with 14 strikeouts in 36 ABs, and until he stops chasing breaking pitches in the dirt, those numbers won't improve.
