Opinion Daily If you thought Sansabelt was a relief ...
SanDisk ranks a distant number two to Apple in digital music player sales, accounting for less than 10% of the market compared to more than 70% for Apple's iPods. But its new Sansa Connect player provides a glimpse of what a post-iPod world might look like, with players tapping into online jukeboxes and friends' collections instead of relying on the tracks stored inside them. There's nothing particularly special about the $249 Connect's size, controls or storage capacity. What sets it apart is its ability to connect wirelessly to the Internet through its WiFi circuitry. When combined with Yahoo's subscription music service and instant messaging software, the player acts as a gateway to a virtually unlimited amount of music, as well as a tool to share songs with far-flung friends or nearby strangers.
Speed Fever
Spring is often attributed with many different and largely favorable metaphors, from the renewal of life, to the birds and the bees. For most college students, it signals the return of short skirts, sunglasses and summer vacation. Yet, there is a sleep segment, a group of dedicated men and women who have spent the winter months holed up in their garages, wrenching, working and waiting for the snow to give way to sun. Their playground is unlit back roads and straight-a-ways. They are street racers, and they play for keeps. This isnt a game for the inexperienced, and losing can be much more serious than any sanctioned sporting event youll find on campus. So why do these men and women, who devote hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars into their ride of choice, risk losing it all for a shot of adrenaline found at the stomp of a gas pedal? The answers are as varied as the cars, with each racer following their own creed or cause.
